England have tied with Sri Lanka in the first match of the five-match ODI series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on June 21. Sri Lanka gave a target of 283 to England. At one stage, England lost 6 wickets for just 82 runs in 18 overs. But, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes added 138 runs partnership for the seventh wicket. This is the second highest seventh wicket partnership in ODI cricket history.
Both Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes got their fifties. Buttler scored 93 runs in 99 balls including 6 fours and 1 six. After England lost Buttler’s wicket, Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes added 61 runs for ninth wicket. Woakes scored unbeaten 92-ball 95 runs. Plunkett played a brilliant knock of 22* runs off 11 balls with 2 fours and 1 six.
England needed 14 runs to win in the last over. Nuwan Pradeep was the bowler. And then England need 10 runs in last two balls, Woakes ran 3 and gave the strike to Plunkett. Plunkett did his job as he smashed a six over long-off and tied the game. Chris Woakes was awarded Man of the Match for his 2 wickets and unbeaten 95 runs.
