Dipa is born in Agartala, Tripura in Northeast India and grow up in the same city since her childhood. She started training gymnastics at the age of 6 by her coach Bisweshwar Nandi. At the age of 16, he achieved her first medal at Junior Nationals in Jalpaiguri.
Later then since 2007, Dipa has collected nearly 77 medals in various national and International competitions, which includes 67 Gold. In 2010 Commonwealth Games, Karmakar has participated in the event and represented the India.
In 2014, She has won bronze medal for India, becoming the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history and grabbed everyone attention after success of the event. In 2015 Asian Championship, and won bronze medal in the grand event. `
Karmakar qualified for Rio Olympics 2016 for gymnastics and represents india for the first time in 52 years.
