Film celebrities Rajnikanth, Priyanka Chopra and Udit Narayan, and Tennis star Sania Mirza received Padma awards from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi on April 12.
While Rajnikanth received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, Priyanka Chopra received the Padma Shri award from the President.
Priyanka, a former Miss World, has been a part of Hindi cinema for almost a decade and has made India proud globally with her stint in the American TV series, Quantico.
Rajnikant, respectfully called ‘Thalaiva’ by his die-hard fans and he has worked in both Tamil and Hindi films during his three decades.
Tennis star Sania Mirza also received Padma Bhushan from the President.
Singer Udit Narayan was honoured with a Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour, for his contribution to the world of music. Narayan, who has been a part of the music industry for over three decades, sported a black suit on the occasion.
