The Board of Tamil Nadu Cricket announced in June 2016 the establishment of the TNPL, a Twenty20 competition to be started in 2016. The first edition of Tamil Nadu premier league (TNPL) is going to play between eight different teams from cities of tamilnadu. Thoothukudi is one among the city which bagged the bidding during auctions.

About TNPL: Tamil Nadu Premier League is an Twenty20 cricket tournament established by Tamilnadu state cricket association (TNCA) in August 2016. Players who is registered in tamil nadu cricket is eligible to play in the competition. The broadcast rights of TNPL has been bagged by Star Sports Netwok for whopping amount.
